Almost every day someone in Australia sustains a spinal cord injury that instantly changes their life and the lives of those who love them

Over 20,000 people are estimated to be living with a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) in Australia today and 380 new incidences are expected to occur this year.

The impact of an SCI on a person is devastating – affecting independence, and it impairs bodily functions such as breathing, digestion and sexual function. SCIs also cause debilitating health consequences such as chronic pain, and bladder and bowel dysfunction.

The Sargood Foundation is the driving force behind the creation and development of Sargood on Collaroy. Our beautiful resort which is operated by an award winning team from Royal Rehab, provides guests who live with SCI, their partner, friends and family with much-needed respite, refreshment, and relaxation. It is also a place of learning, where guests gain confidence, skills, and the empowerment to live full and rewarding lives and to participate in their local community in an active way.

Thanks to the support of our wonderful community of donors The Sargood Foundation is able offer a series of grants that assist people living with SCI to live a vibrant and meaningful life.

Currently the Sargood Foundation works to provide stays at and help with travel to Sargood for those aged over 65, those in emergency situations and those without adequate insurance.

We also support further strategic initiatives which will help people deal with the physical and psychological impacts of a life changing injury with an emphasis on families and children.

“Nobody else can quite understand what it’s like to have someone you love live with a spinal cord injury, day in and day out. It’s the emotional strain that we partners struggle with, so it’s great to be able to connect with others in the same situation at Sargood, we can learn from each other and share some of the responsibility.” Janet

The Sargood Foundation’s vision is that people living with spinal cord injury are provided with opportunities to live life to the fullest
